The Commercial Department, working in close liaison with other teams within Phoenix, support the Sales Team in closing opportunities and turning them into profitable deliverable business to drive the Company forward.
There are many different roles, both professional and support, within the Commercial Department. To play a successful part, you need to be customer focused, have good business acumen, strong communication and persuasive skills and be skilled at dealing with people at all levels.
Outside of the bid process, Commercial runs a small Product Development team who pro-actively analyse market trends and build service products to provide attractive and effective propositions for the Sales teams to take to market.
Within the bid process itself, after the opportunity has been identified by Sales, the Commercial team start the bid process with business qualification. This is undertaken by a team of Bid Solution Architects. Keeping up to date with technical capabilities and trends, they analyse the customers’ requirements and assess the best bespoke infrastructure solution for the customer. Close liaison with Sales and Operations ensures the necessary speed of response in order to create and present a winning solution that delivers the high levels of service and delivery that a customer expects.
Bid Support, who are part of the Commercial Management team, drill into customers’ detailed support requirements and produce competitive pricing to back up the Bid Architect’s solutions. For large and complex bids, a small team of professional commercial accountants become involved, modelling and forecasting the financial outcome of the opportunity and setting a final price which weighs costs and risks against providing a competitive offering. And finally, our in-house team of qualified commercial lawyers review and negotiate with the customer on all terms and conditions, creating a bespoke contract for each customer, or individual solution, which protects the company and the customer by clearly setting out the agreed solution and its desired outcomes.
